------------ WELCOME TO PROFESSIONAL WRITE 2.2! ------------
This Trial Disk introduces the features of Professional
Write 2.2 -- the word processor that helps you work quickly
to produce fast, polished results.
--------------- TRIAL DISK SPECIFICATIONS ------------------
The Trial Disk version of Professional Write 2.2 is just
like the actual product, except for a few limitations that
the full product doesn't have:
1. You can't save a document (but you can save an
address book).
2. You can print only the first page of a document, and
you can't merge a data file when printing.
3. No dictionary features are provided (spell check or
thesaurus).
PLEASE NOTE: To use the Trial Disk files, you must run the
Install program. Installation requires two megabytes of
free space on your hard disk.
---------------------- NEW FEATURES ------------------------
GRAMMAR CHECKER -- Professional Write 2.2's Grammar Checker
lets you review and edit your document's grammar, style,
punctuation, and word use. You can use any of four writing
styles to tailor the program for your documents.
NEW PRINTER SUPPORT --Professional Write version 2.2 now
offers over 150 printers to choose from, including the Canon
LBP-4, HP DeskJet PLUS, HP LaserJet III, IBM LaserPrinter
and more. Many additional cartridges and soft fonts are
supported for the HP line of printers.
AUTOMATIC HYPHENATION -- Professional Write 2.2 can
hyphenate all (or just portions) of your document
automatically. You can hyphenate your document at the
Preview or Print screen.
LARGER DOCUMENTS -- With Professional Write 2.2, document
size isn't tied to available memory. This means that you
can create documents hundreds of pages long -- or as large
as about half of the free space on your hard disk.
SHARING ADDRESS BOOK DATA --Using the new Append and Copy
features, you can import or export delimited ASCII data
between your address book and other databases, such as
Professional File.
----------------------- NEED HELP? -------------------------
If you're running the Trial Disk and need help, just press
F1. By pressing Ctrl-F1, you can access an on-line manual,
the Help Menu, from anywhere in the program.
---------------------- THINGS TO TRY -----------------------
USING MENUS -- When you start Professional Write, you see
its Main Menu. With CREATE/EDIT, you type a new document or
edit an old one. Use SETUP to tell Professional Write what
kind of equipment you have. Choose EXIT to leave the
program and return to DOS.
To choose a menu item, type the corresponding number, or use
the Up or Down Arrow keys to highlight it and then press
Enter.
SAMPLE DOCUMENTS -- This disk contains a sample document
called Sample.ltr, which you can use to see most of
Professional Write's features. Use the other document,
Sample.doc, to see Grammar Checker features.
CREATING AND EDITING -- Choose CREATE/EDIT to edit the
sample document. Press F1 to see a list of cursor movement
keys. The cursor shows where your typing will appear.
Professional Write's automatic wordwrap feature takes care
of line endings for you.
PULL-DOWN MENUS -- Professional Write's pull-down menu
features let you edit, reformat, print, and save your
documents. To see one, press the function key beside the
menu title. For example, press F3 to choose an Edit
function.
SPEED KEYS -- Some pull-down menu options have Ctrl key
combinations beside them. These speed keys let you select
frequently-used commands without pulling down the menu.
CHECKING GRAMMAR -- To use Professional Write's new Grammar
Checker, get the Sample.doc file and make it your working
copy. To do this, press F2, then select GET FILE. When
the program prompts you, type sample.doc and press Enter.
The Sample.doc file appears on the screen. Press F5 and
select CHECK GRAMMAR TO END OF DOCUMENT. The Grammar
Checker pauses and highlights questionable words, phrases,
and punctuation. You can continue checking, or you can
select EDIT SENTENCE and change the text. To stop checking
grammar, press Esc.
EDIT BLOCKS OF TEXT -- Mark a TEXT BLOCK to move, copy,
delete, or emphasize the whole block at once. Press F3 and
select MARK TEXT. Use the arrow keys to highlight a section
of text and then press F10. The TEXT BLOCK OPERATIONS menu
lists the changes you can make to the marked block.
PREVIEW YOUR DOCUMENT -- Use Preview to see how your text
will print. Press F2 and select PREVIEW WORKING COPY to see
a full-screen view of the sample letter. To zoom in, press
F2 for OPTIONS and select CHANGE VIEW.
To change fonts from the Preview screen, press F3 and then
select CHANGE FONT. Select a new font from the list shown
on the screen. Professional Write automatically changes the
font in Preview and displays new line and page breaks.
Press Esc to return to the Edit screen.
AUTOMATIC HYPHENATION -- When you're in Preview or Print,
you can use Professional Write's automatic hyphenation
feature. In Preview, press F2 to display the Options menu,
and select SET PRINT STYLES. Choose HYPHENATED and press
Enter to see automatic hyphenation.
PRINTING YOUR FINISHED PRODUCT -- To print the first page of
your sample Professional Write letter, press F2 and display
the FILE/PRINT menu. Select PRINT WORKING COPY to display
the PRINT OPTIONS menu. To accept the default settings,
press Enter. Press Esc to return to the Main Menu. Choose
SETUP, then choose SELECT PRINTER 1. Press F1 for
instructions.
To change fonts for your printer, mark the text and choose
new fonts from the Text Block Operations menu.
KEYBOARD MACROS -- MACROS are recorded keystrokes that you
can replay to save time and effort. You can create macros
that type a simple phrase or perform all the steps in a
task. Press F2 and select USE MACROS.
